Scrapping about a cherished heirloom

We moved to Colorado from Illinois a few months ago, and I still have a few unpacked boxes of things (both crafty and otherwise) in my scraproom. As I was emptying a couple of boxes and finding homes for the things inside them, I found a small tin that had belonged to my Grandma Josephine, She saved buttons from old clothing, past sewing projects and so on, and put all of the buttons into metal round containers such as old cookie tins, gift boxes for candy or soap and other metal cans with pretty prints and tight lids. She was always happy to share buttons with all of us for school projects and for crafts. When she died, I was able to bring home one of those tins. It's sitting now where I can see it every time I scrap. It reminds me of Grandma Josie and her generosity, love and kind spirit.

I decided to scrap a photo of the tin, using Sketch #214 from the Sketches in Thyme blog. This is the sketch:

One kit, many different layouts

I love scrapbooking kits because they save me a lot of time in choosing and matching products and, in the end, they save me money. I know that everything in the bag has been chosen because it all "goes together", so I can get down to the much more enjoyable business of creating

Right now I'm creating with the August main kit, "Sprinkles" embellishment add-on and patterned paper add-on from Citrus Twist Kits. The papers and colors this month are especially fun. I've made six layouts so far and still have a lot of kit left. The first layout, "You're Gonna Hear Me Roar", already has been posted. For this one I used a sketch from PageMaps. My new daughter-in-law earned her Doctor of Nursing Practices degree in May. We couldn't be there but I borrowed some photos from her parents for this layout.

I ran out of current pictures to scrap, so I rummaged through some old photo books and found this one from 1989 or 1990. My second child needed extra practice in reading, so he often read aloud to my youngest daughter. The photo quality wasn't great, so I converted it to black and white, I used a sketch from Stuck?! Sketches. I just loved the hot air balloon paper from Shimelle's "Starshine" collection that was in the August kit; the balloons are just made for fussy cutting!

I used a sketch from Let's Get Sketchy for this fun layout; I also used it for a challenge on the Citrus Twist blog to journal about emotions or feelings. The journaling tag, tucked under the photo, tells about how I admire birds from a distance but get freaked out if they get too close.

I used a Citrus Twist blog sketch for this one; the pictures are from 2009.

My kids and grandkids all know I'm a Facebook photo snagger, and that's how I got these pictures of my daughter, her fiance and his daughter. The sketch is by Susan Stringfellow and it's one I've used several times.

A couple of "dandy lion" layouts

Lions seemed to be a recurring theme this week in my scraproom. Here's another Graphic 45 Safari Adventure layout, again feauturing the Pueblo Zoo lion family. I used the sketch from the Creative Scrappers blog . This is the sketch:

There was a code for 25% off any cut files from The Cut Shoppe through the end of August, so I picked up that leafy background file. (Note: the photo of the lions is not mine, but isn't it fantastic the way the three of them are "posing" for their family photo?)

And then there's my "dandy lion", Ed. He joined me this morning for coffee on our back patio, so I took the opportunity to snap a couple of pictures. For this layout, I used the August 1 sketch from Stuck?! Sketches and the main kit, patterned paper add on and "sprinkles"embellishment add on from Citrus Twist Kits

This is the sketch:

Loving that Graphic 45!

I've loved Graphic 45's paper collections since I first encountered them at the local scrapbook store near our former home in Illinois. Love the rich colors, the over the top graphics, the beautiful embellishments. I've missed them since the store closed a couple of years ago and was thrilled when I found a store, not too far from our new home here in Colorado, that carries some of their lines.

I picked up some of the new Safari Adventure collection last week to go with photos that I took at the Pueblo Zoo. Now I wish I had picked up more; maybe next trip. I paired the papers with sketch number 213 from Sketches in Thyme and a photo that I took of our zoo's lion family:

Baby lion (his name is Mumford) is hard to spot but he's napping in front of the daddy lion while his mama sits nearby.
