Memorial weekend scrapping

Happy Memorial Day and welcome to summer! And if you happen to be a veteran of our armed forces .... then thank you for your service to our great country.

It's been a very laid-back weekend here in southern Colorado. We caught a little bit (a very little bit) of rain yesterday, but today is sunny and warm with a nice breeze. I took a walk this morning to see the neighbors' yards, now that most of them have planted flowers or bought pots of flowering plants to place on their porches. My mom moved with us here to Colorado, and she is enjoying this aspect of living in the "high desert". She always had flowers growing in the yard of the house where I grew up. When she moved to an apartment two years ago, she missed having her plants to tend.  When we built our house here in Pueblo, we made sure the landscapers made a nice flower bed under the tree in our front yard.

I took a few photos on the sly earlier in the week (Mom hates having her picture taken; says the camera makes her look old) and decided to scrap them this weekend. For the first layout, I used the May sketch on the newly revived Creative Scrappers blog for inspiration (love Kristine's sketches and so glad she's back!) I also borrowed some ideas from Gina Rodgers' layout on the Citrus Twist Kits blog; Gina often uses watercolors and other mixed media in her background.

This is my resulting layout (the watercolors made the paper buckle just a little, but it will be fine in a page protector in my album:

Nearly everything is from the May main kit and add ons from Citrus Twist Kits; I did pull the aqua and silver alphas from my stash and I cut the doily with my Cameo.

I also made a second layout of Mom and her flower gardening. Again, I used the May kit and add on from Citrus Twist Kits; I also used the sketch from CT's May 22 blog post. I tried painting again with a little gesso undermeath.

I'm loving the sunny colors of this month's kits; can't wait for June's kits to arrive!

Thanks for looking; have a great day

Rocking the double page layout

My youngest daughter's 28th birthday was last week, and her boyfriend gave her a magnificent custom-made vest. They're both big rockabilly fans -- music, dress and culture -- and he spent three months working with a local textile design artist on the vest. It includes icons and references to her favorite rockabilly song, bands and icons. As soon as she posted photos, I knew I had to scrap it.

I used a great double-page sketch from the Scrapmuch? blog and the May main kit and paper add-on from Citrus Twist Kits. I used my Silhouette Cameo to create a few rockabilly-inspired embellishments (with a little online research)

This is the sketch:

And here's my layout:

I added a line around the layout to help differentiate between the white layout background and the blog background; not sure it helped much. This was a fun layout to do. Thanks for looking; have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day!

And what better way to celebrate this special lady on her special day, than with a layout! I used the May 1 layout from Stuck?! Sketches and the March kit from Citrus Twist Kits, along with a photo I took of Mom earlier in the week:

My mom is 85 years old and still going strong. We were visiting the Pueblo Riverwalk area when I took this photo. She can walk better and faster than I can. While we were standing near this shrub, she dead headed the flowers. And she doesn't like this photo -- "That camera of yours always make me look so old!" That's my mama!

Thanks for looking. Have a great day!
