M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!

We've been enjoying our TV SHOWS challenge theme this month at Cookin' Up Creations! My challenge today on the forum features the original Mickey Mouse Club show for children, which aired from 1955-60.

I used a sketch from Nuts About Sketches  (week 326) and the "Either Way" July kit from Scraptastic Club for my layout:

If you would like to play along with us at Cookin' Up Creations, the deadline for all July challenges is August 5. Each completed challenge earns you an entry into the July prize drawing. And you won't want to miss our August theme, "ON THE RADIO", featuring some of our favorite songs and artists.

Thanks for stopping by; have a wonderful day!

Button, button ...

Who's got the button(s)? That's the question asked by the third July challenge at the Scraptastic Club blog.  This week's challenge is to use buttons on a project. I dug out my "button jar" and added a few to this layout:

Each year, the Quad Cities Botanical Center in Rock Island, IL., hosts the Flamingo Follies. Local artisans take pink plastic lawn flamingos and turn them into wondrous creatures. This one was a fabulous play on the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover and was my favorite. My mom and I spent an enjoyable afternoon at the gardens, viewing the 75 or so flamingo creations and enjoying the new children's garden.

This layout also will be featured on the "Potluck Friday" challenge at Cookin' Up Creations. We have a new challenge each day, Monday through Friday. Every completed challenge earns you one entry into the prize drawing at the end of the month. Come on over and join in the fun as we celebrate "TV SHOWS" through July 31!

It's July .....

... and that means new challenges on the Scraptastic Club blog! I'm loving the July "Either Way" kit and add-on with its bright colors and playful patterns.

The first July challenge called for using natural elements. I used a burlap heart, arrow and star, as well as some burlap-patterned alphabet stickers:

The second challenge included using a BIG photo. This photo of granddaughter Anna, taken by a Disney photographer at Disney World, was perfect for the challenge. Again, I used the Either Way kit and add-on:

Speaking of challenges, the Cookin' Up Creations forum has added some new challenge categories to its weekday "Blue Plate Special" challenges. We now have Meatloaf Monday (recipe challenge), Taco Tuesday (sketch challenge) Soup of the Day Wednesday (scraplift challenge), Take Out Thursday (a focus challenge) and Potluck Friday (using your stash). Each completed challenge earns you an entry into the monthly Dessert Tray prize drawing. So come on over and join in the fun!

Featured on the Citrus Twist blog!

Citrus Twist Kits owner Trina Craig introduced some new weekly features on the Citrus Twist Blog this month, including Wednesday's "A View From Our Gallery". I am proud and excited that my layout with the June 29 sketch, was chosen as the first layout to be highlighted!

This is the layout, using the June Citrus Twist kit:

Citrus Twist posts a sketch by Kasia each Sunday; scrappers have until the following Saturday night to post their layouts. Each week, there's a random prize drawing for a $5 gift certificate from among the members who posted layouts. I love Kasia's sketches, and I also enjoy winning those certificates to put toward kit "extras". And their kits are always amazing.

I went back to my April Citrus Twist kit for this layout, which is dear to my heart because it's in memory of my brother-in-law, who died in May 2013, and his wife, who died last month. They were one of the most devoted couples I've ever met and both left us way too soon. I've always loved this photo of them with their beloved border collie, and it's how I want to remember them.

Thanks for looking -- have a great day!

Two more Scraptastic challenges ...

... and another fun sketch from Susan Stringfellow! I loved the big sun motif and the circles in this month's sketch challenge on the Scraptastic Club blog.

My son and his fiancee recently enjoyed a trip to sunny Mexico; and I couldn't resist snagging a few photos from Facebook. (Honestly, that's the only way I get photos of these kids sometimes!) I still had some papers from last July's Rock Lobster kit, which seemed appropriate for the photos. I also had a piece of yellow dotted paper from an even older kit, which made a perfect sun:

I cut the sun, circle, banner and little palm trees with Cricut files. The alphas were from some my stash, also.

I also completed the second challenge on the Scraptastic blog, which was to use punches. I need a birthday card for my grandson who is turning 9 next week, so I dove into the Daylight kit and pulled a few punches.

I made the frame for the shaker box using a 2 inch square punch. I punched the square, then cut the paper around it to the size I wanted for the frame. The little button at the left actually took a scalloped circle, 1 inch circle and 1/2 inch circle punch, along with that cute little froggy punch from the Target bargin bins. I used a notebook edge border punch for the bottom.

Thanks for looking. Have a great day!
