No cardstock? No problem!

Last week's challenge on the Scraptastic Club blog was to do a layout using no cardstock. It really wasn't difficult to do. For this layout, I used the Summer Fresh line by Simple Stories -- it was featured in the July 2012 Scraptastic kit, and I ordered an extra set of the patterned paper because I thought it was so cute.

The design is this week's sketch (#284) from Nuts About Sketches. So perfect for these fun fair photos of my youngest granddaughter at our annual hometown celebration. And I finally found a place to use that adorable closeline banner sticker!

Design your own kit?

Scraptastic Kit Club's September 12 challenge was to "design your own kit" and use it for a layout. I pulled pieces from my Scraptastic January kits and some assorted things from my stash. Here's what I started with:

And here's my finished layout:

I used the Spellbinders dies to cut the foil into gears, and made paint splotches on the Hambly screen print with alcohol inks and a blending tool before adhering to my layout. I used acrylic paints to color the cork chevrons. Not really my typical style, but I liked the effect!

If you're looking for scrapbooking challenges and inspiration, join us at the Cookin' Up Creations forum! There's a new challenge every day through September 25; and each completed challenge earns you a chance in the prize drawing at the end of the month.

Scraplifting myself!

The September 5 challenge on the Scraptastic Club blog is to scraplift one of your own layouts. Right away, I thought of this one from last month:

I used a sketch from Citrus Twist for the original layout. This time, I used the Scraptastic August "Found a Boy" kit and a photo of my oldest daughter's family at Universal Studios. Here's my scraplift:

This time the photo is bigger and the layout more streamlined. Love it!

Just under the wire ....

The deadline for the August Scraptastic Kit Club challenges is at 11 p.m. my time tonight; so I completed this layout in just under an hour. The challenge is to use punches creatively. I used three different punches to punch strips from the same color cardstock as the background, then laid them down to add some texture. A couple sprays of color mist, some paper and a few embellishments, and a big splashy title ... and I'm done!

Here's a close-up of the backgrtound detail:

The photos are compliments of my oldest daughter, from her family's trip to Disneyland and the San Diego area last month. I used up some scraps and bits and pieces from other projects, plus a set of Thickers that has been in my stash for who knows how long.

Thanks for stopping by; have a great week!

I completed the August sketch on the Scraptastic Kit Club blog -- with two days to spare!

I combined design team member Susan Stringfellow's awesome sketch with the Scraptastic August Found a Boy kit and add-on, and a photo snagged from my older daughter's Facebook page. My two girls and their families recently vacationed together at Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo. As soon as I saw the photo, I knew I had to scrap it!
